We analyze the recharging activity of a mobile phone to understand the efficiency of the different units involved (charger, EPM chipset, battery). Our measurements show that the efficiency is quite low; only about 15 % of the electricity from the power grid ends up being used for the actual computing and communication elements of the mobile phone. It seems that there is room for improvement in the recharging efficiency. However, as the consumption of electricity of a single phone is small the incentive for improvements has been weak.

An Efficient Wireless Recharging Mechanism for Achieving Perpetual Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Networks
Energy recharging has received much attention in recent years. Several recharging mechanisms were proposed for achieving perpetual lifetime of a given Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). However, most of them require a mobile recharger to visit each sensor and then perform the recharging task, which increases the length of the recharging path. Another common weakness of these works is the requiremen...
متن کاملOptimization of Power Utilization in Multimobile Robot Foraging Behavior Inspired by Honeybees System
Deploying large numbers of mobile robots which can interact with each other produces swarm intelligent behavior. However, mobile robots are normally running with finite energy resource, supplied from finite battery. The limitation of energy resource required human intervention for recharging the batteries. The sharing information among the mobile robots would be one of the potentials to overcom...
متن کاملRegression Analysis of Multi-Rendezvous Recharging Route in Multi-Robot Environment
One of the crucial issue in the field of autonomous mobile robotics is the vitality of energy efficiency of robots and the entire system they form. By efficiency here we refer to ability of robots (or the system in which they are deployed) to maintain their survival throughout the course of the operation so as to provide themselves with the opportunity of attaining energy once needed. In this p...
متن کاملAutonomous Battery Recharging for Indoor Mobile Robots
This paper describes a method for automatically recharging the batteries on a mobile robot. The robot used in this project is the Nomadic .TechnologiesTM Nomad XR4000 mobile robot. The battery recharging system was implemented using the robot's built-in sensors to control docking with a simple recharging station. The recharging station has an AC power plug, an infra-red beacon and a target desi...
متن کاملDevelopment of an Automatic Recharging System for Intelligent Robots Using an Anisotropic Ultrasonic Sensor
It is essential to supply electrical power continuously to mobile robots to keep moving. We studied how to make a mobile robot return to a recharging station autonomously by using specially designed ultrasonic sensors when a battery is low. A principle to calculate location and rotation angle of a mobile robot from recharging station was suggested. An anisotropic ultrasonic sensor system, we ca...
